How we built India's largest Direct Marketing Service Company
In 1990, V.Swaminathan and Harish Pandeya got together to start Andromeda Communications in Kalina, a western suburb not far from the Bombay airport. Their objective was to set up the finest direct marketing company in western India.
The first big break came in the next year 1991 when an opportunity to market Citibank credit cards came our way. With almost no credit cards in the market then, we were sure that a huge opportunity awaited us. We were fortunate to recruit a good set of executives many of whom are senior managers at Andromeda today and, the business grew from being centered on a single product credit cards, to include various others including financial products, cellular phones and now e-commerce & web-based sales.
The period 1992 to 1997 witnessed exponential growth for us with our Delhi office delivering almost as much in revenues as the parent set-up in Bombay. The business grew to include all the products offered by Citibank in India mortgages, personal loans, auto loans and loans against securities.
Our relationship with Hutchison Max Telecom part of the Hutchison Whampoa group of Hong Kong, started in 1995 with the advent of cell phones to India. Currently, we are amongst their largest distributors and also run a call center for them.
Retaining our key executives over the years has been one of the main factors contributing to our success. Learning has thus been passed on over the years and the next level of managers has more often than not, outshone their predecessors.
Ms. Elizabeth Jacob our new director joined with the objective of setting up the Call Center and Telmarketing business in Andromeda.
Mrs. Jacob is acknowledged as the leading call center and telemarketing professional in the country. She carries over 15 years of pioneering experience in call centers right from the setup stage, to process implementation, automation and execution.
The challenge today lies in providing an opportunity through new business acquisition/expansion of current businesses for all the aspiring leaders in Andromeda. New clients such as Sony, Satyam Infoway and are amongst those who will help our future managers take Andromeda to the next level of growth both in the area of direct sales as well as telemarketing.
